TO KEEP EMAIL ON SAME SERVER AND WEBSITE ON REMOTE SERVER

To serve emails of your current server and website on remote server you will need to use zone editor in CPanel to do the following.

Summary Instructions:

  • Delete the cname record for mail.yourdomain.com
  • Add an A record with the same details as the cname record you just deleted but pointed to your current servers ip address instead of domain name.
  • Edit/Add MX Record beginning in mail. to include mail. in front of the domain name.
  • Edit/Add the A Record yourdomain.com to point to the IP address of your external web server.

Detailed Instructions:

  1. Edit/Add an A Record for your domain to point towards the remote web server IP address. Don't forget to add a . after the domain name. Your entry should look something like this. yourdomain.com.      14400     IN    A    web.server.ip.address
  2. Edit/Add an MX entry and add mail. to the front of yourdomain.com.  Your entry should look somethng like this: 14400    IN     MX    Priority: 0    Destination: mail.yourdomain.com
  3. Delete the CNAME record for mail.yourdomain.com and create an A record the same but instead of pointing it to your domaain.com point it towards current serverip. Your entry should look something like this.    mail.yourwebaddress.com     14400    IN    A   your.domain.ip
